MELTBLOWN Science
What is Meltblown nonwoven ?

This scientific, specialized nano material (web) is manufactured using a process that involves direct conversion of a polymer into a random laid nonwoven web of material.
First development in the industrial era around 1945, the materials derived from specialized equipment, results in a variation of micro small filament diameters in the form of a nano web.
These extremely tiny meltblown web strands are mainly used for their superior barrier, filtration and absorption properties.

Meltblown nonwoven web is one of the most important parts used in the construction of our face mask offerings. This web fabric also contains an electrostatic ion charge that is responsible for the boost in filtration, as this charge helps to trap (attract) airborne pathogens as they enter this Meltblown filtering/web layer.
There are usually 3 parts to a properly constructed 3 Ply Medical or Civil mask.

1) The outer layer is designed to repel droplets (water, blood, etc).

2) The middle layer (critical filtering layer) is the electrostatic ion Meltblown filtering layer that the pathogen clings to, helping to prevent the pathogen from passing through the mask.
(NOT ALL MASK MANUFACTURERS PROVIDE THIS STATIC ION CHARGED LAYER)

3) The inner layer (closest to ones face) is a soft layer that prevents larger, harmful droplets from exiting the mask.
The above illustration shows the sizes of different particular matter. Particulate Matter (PM) is a general term for the sum of all very small solid and liquid particles suspended in the atmosphere.

This complex mixture can include both organic and inorganic particles, such as dust, pollen, soot, smoke, liquid droplets and pathogens. These particles vary greatly in size, composition, and origin.

Think of PM as particles so light that they can float in the air. Some of these particles are so small (one thirtieth to one fifth of the diameter of a human hair) that not only do they penetrate deep in our lungs, they also pass into our bloodstream, just like oxygen.

1) 10μm - PM10 - coarse partial

2) 7μm - Red blood cell

3) 2.5μm - PM2.5 - fine partial

4) 0.5μm - Bacillus Bacteria

5) 0.1μm - Coronavirus (COVID-19)

6) 0.007μm - Ultrafine particle
